Please Note: The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 US Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or other reproduction is not to be used “for any purpose other than private study scholarship or research.” If a user makes a request for or later uses a photocopy or other reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Douglas County Historical Society reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

It is the policy of the DCHS Library/Archives Center to reproduce any materials in its collection, which it has the rights to reproduce, providing that reproduction will not damage the original.

In providing copies of photographs and other visual materials to researchers, the Library/Archives does not surrender its rights of ownership. Permission for use in any other format than the terms under which the copy is released must be obtained in writing from the Center. The researcher must assume responsibility for use of copied material, including infringement of copyright and other ownership rights. In the event of publication, the credit line must read:

(along with any identifier for the photograph and the original photographer,
when the information is supplied.)
